HOMES

You will be the guest of a family during the CIH period.

GROUP HOUSING

All the students stay together in either a church building or a retreat facility.  The men and women have separate sleeping areas.  Students are invited into homes for some meals and sometimes short home stays for Christmas and New Years.

Special

Local programs run from December 20, 2008 to January 2, 2009.  This program will begin and/or end on a different date.   Please consult the individual program description for more information.

For the duration of the Christmas holidays, each host community plans a program of activities for its group of students.  Accommodations are provided in private homes or group housing.   Opportunities are made for the students to meet local families in their homes and businesses through shared meals, parties, sightseeing and shopping excursions.   Students in a Florida Christmas International House may spend the holidays swimming, those in Pennsylvania may ski.    Knowing that their guests are students, the host communities also make library and study facilities easily available.

A Host Family Program offers students housing in a host family’s home. However, some activities, meals, and programming may be planned together as a group. Host Family Programs allow for close contact between students and their hosts. American homes are different from what many students are accustomed. The informal relaxed atmosphere makes for a good experience.

In Group Housing Programs, students are housed together in one location: at a church, church camp, or conference center, rather than in a home with a family. Most of the planned activities will take place with other students, however, students will be in homes for some meals and for short periods of time, such as Sundays, Christmas and New Years Day, and possibly will experience a short home stay with an American family.
