Christmas Hope
Hinkletown Outreach of Personal Experiences
Ephrata, PA
Spend a relaxing holiday with your host family in the beautiful rolling farmland of Lancaster County. Hinkletown is located in south-central Pennsylvania and families from several churches invite you to share the joy of a Christian Christmas with them. Our program is a home-stay program. All of your activities will be with your host family.
You will be part of your host family’s traditional holiday activities and celebrations. We can guarantee you will meet lots of family members and have some great meals with lots of good food.
Our program has only one planned group activity, an International Evening, where you will be invited to bring a traditional food from your country to share with everyone. The host families will also bring a food from their tradition. We will visit and play games after the meal.
The Lancaster area is well known for its Amish and Mennonite peoples. Because of their religious convictions, the Amish live as people did over 100 years ago, driving horses and wagons and not using electricity. The Mennonites share similar beliefs with the Amish, but interpret them differently in their more modern life styles. We hope that you and your host family will explore these similarities, and differences in our culture.
You and your host family can decide if you wish to meet other students in the program and possibly share activities with other host families. Some families will visit nearby sites or cities, others will include you in their ordinary lives.

Market
Square Presbyterian Church
Harrisburg,
PA
Our downtown church sponsors home visits – in the city, suburbs, small towns or in the country. Hosts include all ages and family make-ups, single men or women, couples, families with children. Market Square Presbyterian Church has members who live throughout south-central Pennsylvania. We also have hosts who participate from other churches in the area. We welcome students to share our holiday season and our part of the United States.
Although we offer a variety of trips and activities, Market Square’s CIH program allows students time to relax and spend time with your host.
Our traditional activities include an “international dinner” with food prepared by students and hosts, a New Year’s Eve celebration in downtown Harrisburg (watch the strawberry drop from Strawberry Square at midnight), a tour of downtown Harrisburg (capital city of America’s fifth-largest state), the National Civil War Museum, museums and more.
We also offer day-long bus trips to Washington, DC and New York City. Other trips may include small group outings to Hershey Chocolate World and Hershey Park’s Christmas Candylane, Amish country in nearby Lancaster County, Gettysburg, Baltimore or Philadelphia. Your host also may arrange for you to enjoy downhill skiing (available but somewhat expensive), snow tubing, indoor ice skating or other winter activities.
We welcome you to join us for our Christmas holiday, and we believe that the Harrisburg program has something for everyone.
If you are a student interested in the CIH-Harrisburg, PA, program, please first apply through CIH application process.
