Learn more about New Jersey
Caldwell is located in the north eastern part of New
Jersey, just 22 miles from New York City. Members of the First Presbyterian
Church at Caldwell are excited to welcome you in our homes and share the joy of
Christmas with our families. You will join other International students for two
weeks of local activities in our surrounding area. You will share in the
regular family holiday activities your host family has planned as well as a few
special group events. There will be an all day trip into New York City, an
evening of holiday lights at our local zoo, a trip to the historic town of
Chester for holiday shopping and Christmas fun, and dinner out with some of our
college students.
We will also have an International Evening for which you will be invited to
prepare your favorite dish or meal from your country to share with all of the
host families. Bring your favorite recipes, costumes, pictures and other things
of interest from your home country to share.
Expenses
While you are here with us in Caldwell, your transportation and most meals
will be provided at no cost to you. Students should plan on bringing $120 to
cover four meals in New York City, as well as two meals here in Caldwell. There
will be a trip into New York City (double decker bus tour - 2 day pass) that
will be $55. Also, don't forget to bring money for the meal you will prepare
for our International Dinner, as well as extra shopping money for the trips to
Chester and New York City.
Weather and Transportation
The temperatures are usually quite cold (24-40F) and snow is a definite
possibility. Bring warm clothing for being outdoors, as well as gloves, scarf,
and a hat. Our closest airport is Newark International Airport and train
transportation is also available into Newark Penn Station.
