Learn more about North Carolina

North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church invites you to experience the hospitality and beauty of the foothills of northwestern North Carolina, which is best known for its Blue Ridge Mountains.

While staying in the homes of members of our church, you and other international students will have the opportunity to travel on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway (a linear national park), go snow skiing at some of the best ski resorts in the southern U.S., see the frescoes of internationally-known artist Ben Long, walk an outdoor labyrinth at another local church, go hiking at Stone Mountain State Park and elsewhere, visit a restored village of historical log buildings called Whippoorwill, visit a local newspaper office, experience everyday life in our small town, and more.

Activities planned outside this immediate area may include visiting both the restored Moravian town of Old Salem in Winston-Salem and Biltmore House (called the largest home in the U.S.), and more in the Asheville area.

Your expenses during your stay here will be minimal, with most of your meals, travel and activity costs provided by our church. You will want to bring enough money for souvenirs and other miscellaneous expenses.

Temperatures will vary from a high typically in the upper 40s and 50s (Fahrenheit) in North Wilkesboro to a high mostly in the 40s in the higher mountains.  There can be snow during the Christmas period.

Travel to our area through either the Greensboro or Charlotte airports (Greensboro is usually a little less expensive).  Our Committee is planning for your participation with our church family from December 18, 2003 through January 2, 2004.  We plan to host between 6 and 9 students this year.  We would welcome you to be one of these!
