Greater Grand Rapids, with a population of over 300,000, has often been called "the biggest little town in the world." In spite of the fact that Grand Rapids is big and growing all the time, it has maintained a small town flavor that helps visitors feel at "home." This flavor has been greatly enhanced by its rich Holland Dutch and Polish heritage.
Located just 40 miles east of Lake Michigan and only 3 hours from Detroit or Chicago and having an international airport, Grand Rapids is accessible and close to a great variety of activities. The winter sports include downhill and cross-country skiing, snow boarding, ice skating, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. If you prefer to be entertained inside, there are several theaters with excellent stage productions, a public museum with a planetarium, an art museum, and the Gerald R. Ford museum.
While in Grand Rapids, a visitor can tour the world headquarters for AmWay. Other industry in Grand Rapids would include furniture manufacturers and automobile-related factories. No visit to any city is complete until the malls have been "checked out." Grand Rapids has several!
