Learn more about Kansas
We hope you will consider coming to the “heart” of the United States and share your holidays with friends in Kansas City.
You will have an opportunity to visit two states: Kansas and Missouri because Kansas City’s metropolitan area spans across 40 miles, two states and has a population of over 1.2 million residents. It is the largest city in Kansas and second largest city in Missouri. Kansas City is the birthplace of many Jazz artists and our most famous cuisine is barbecue. But if you ask our previous students what makes Kansas City special they would say the people. We would love to bring you into our homes and show off our beloved Kansas City!
One of the places we can’t wait to show you in Kansas City is the Plaza. The Plaza is one of the first outdoor shopping districts in the country built in the 1920s. The architecture is modeled off of our sister city Seville, Spain. The Plaza is decorated with over 80,000 lights at Christmas which we will watch as they turn on the lights one evening while drinking hot chocolate. We will visit The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The Nelson has one of the most acclaimed collections of Asian Art. Another museum that we will visit is the Liberty Memorial. This is the only WWI Museums in the country. It is newly remodeled and has a great view of the downtown area. We will visit a TV station and watch an evening news broadcast from behind the camera. And because Kansas City is the home of Jazz we will not only listen to live Jazz at a club, but visit the Jazz Museum. Our days will be full of activities all around the Kansas City area and these are just a few of the fun things we have planned for you.
Village Presbyterian Church welcomes you in their homes to share the joy of Christmas with their families. The students each year make Christmas so special and there are memories will forever be treasured. Each year we find it difficult to say good-bye to the students and we have kept in touch with many of them.

Please bring your favorite recipes, pictures and even attire from your home country to share.
While you are visiting Kansas City the host families and churches will provide your transportation, meals and entrance fees for group excursions. You may want to have some spending money for shopping.
The weather will range from cool to cold. (the wake up temperature can range from 10 to 30 degrees) with a high of 30 to 50 degrees during the day. Ice, snow is also a possibility so warm socks and boots or heavy shoes are recommended.
