Spanish explorers first landed
near what would become St. Augustine, Florida, in
1513, more than 100 years before
English settlers arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Since the city was
founded in 1535, the flags of five
nations . . . Spain, France, Great
Britain, the Confederate States of America and the United States of America
. . . have flown over the citizens of the city.
And today, the many reminders of its
rich and varied history are enjoyed every year by the more than 6 million visitors to
St. Augustine.
In contrast to the old city (the oldest in America), many modern attractions and
popular visitor spots like Disney World, Cape Kennedy Space Center and
Universal Studios theme park are
conveniently located nearby, just over two hours away by car. And miles of sunny Florida beaches stretch out
within walking distance from the old
town square.
Christmas International House – St. Augustine
invites you to
join our host families over the Christmas and New Year holidays as they
prepare their homes, church and community
to celebrate this special time of the year.
Individual and shared activities
are planned that will introduce you to both modern and historic north Florida
and bring you into relationship with
a genuinely American community. Your
two week visit will allow you to share
and compare your way of life with that of your fellow student visitors and your welcoming host families resulting in friendships that can last a lifetime.
We hope you will join us in December
so that we might begin the New Year together and thereafter
contribute to peace and understanding in
the world long into the future.
